You do not need a consultant to advise your application process. However, unless you have an experience examiner on staff, or your pocesses are already close to world class, an outside consultant can help you up a steep learning curve and save a lot of time.


This service provides a structured opportunity for commercial or nonprofit organizations to improve operational effectiveness and constituent services in an integrated way. ROM staff have extensive nonprofit experience, including serving as Director and Chair of Boards and have advised commercial firms in a range of industries. How Baldrige Application Support Works


Possibly the greatest value to the client comes from the effort to work through the analysis, introspection and catharsis of preparing the application, Therefore ROM does not provide a "turnkey" application. Instead, we ask hard questions, help clients avoid wasted effort, and facilitate a process of learning and growth.


ROM assigns a consultant to work with the client executive team and one or more designated staff members. The process from start through Feedback Report should take about three weeks, depending on client interest and staff availability. Major activities are:

  1. Agree on project design and responsibilities
  2. Train application team and other staff in Baldrige criteria and process
  3. Conduct Organizational Profile
  4. Evaluate benchmarks to other organizations as needed
  5. Review Core Values use in client organization
  6. Assess performance for each category
  7. Assess performance across categories
  8. Define gaps in integrated performance excellence
  9. Develop preliminary performance improvement schema
  10. Support client staff in preparing Draft Application
  11. Prepare preliminary Feedback report and brief client
  12. Conduct simulated site visit (documentation and actual visit experience)
  13. Recommend readiness for full application


We conduct introductory working sessions on site and weekly review sessions, with telephone and email support responses within one business day. Reduced on site presence by the consultant strengthens the client staff team's commitment to and accountability for the assessment and application process.
